Library Rip-Off

Our family has frequented the library quite often this summer. We are usually found walking there about every other day since it is only a block from our house. Looking for things to keep them busy, I signed the kids up for some classes and there was also a summer reading program to challenge them. The reading program is set for different age levels and at each level they may earn three different prizes when they complete a certain amount of reading. Kamryn has especially taken this challenge to heart and got busy reading so she could get her hands on those prizes. After completing the first goal, she was allowed to choose a coupon from a variety of stores downtown. (She chose a coupon from the bakery to get a free donut.) The second prize she chose was a free hard cover book from a collection that they had at the library. It was a new book and pretty exciting for her. Well, she was determined to reach her final goal and get the grand prize. We went in yesterday with her completed sheet and she was presented with...A YARD SIGN! I'm not really sure what kid would be proud of this prize, but we thought it was hilarious. (The stake things are really sharp too.) All I can say is the children's librarian is quite young and I'm pretty sure does not have children of her own. Oh well! (Needless to say I gave Kam her own coupon for five bucks to the dollar store which she thought was pretty cool!)
Last night we were able to get together with the other two Seminarians and their families who are in Central Iowa for internships this summer. After getting aquainted and eating dinner, we sat out on the driveway of the parsonage of the First Christian Reformed Church of Prairie City, IA. What a peaceful setting! We had a wonderful time sharing our experiences so far, encouraging one another and eating great food! Here are the three Seminarians (sitting on hard church folding chairs! :)).

Happy 4th everyone. Last year I remember all the candy you kids got from the Palos Heights parade. We'll be going up there again in a few minutes, and have breakfest at Lumes first, and than put the chair out on Harlem Ave. Kam really proud of all the reading at the library you did. Did you put the sign on the lawn or toss it ? Glad Mom gave you a better reward. See you all soon. R.K.
