Turkey Day 2012

We had a really great Thanksgiving Day this year.  The 80 degree sunny weather set a beautiful backdrop for our celebration.  We had a wonderful church service in the morning and then the annual deep-frying of the turkey commenced.  We hosted some friends in our home this year again, which is a ton of fun for us.  We missed Katie and other family, but know they had a good day too.  We ate, talked, walked, played, ate some more, watched football, napped, laughed, cleaned up with out too much trouble and then ended our day with fun and games in the school gym.  Fun for young and old!  Here are some photos documenting the day.

Day Away

Scott has a speaking engagement at a school south of us this week.  Since we did not have school or work on Monday for Veteran's Day, we decided to tag along with him and make a day of it.  After Scott was finished, we visited some of our favorite spots in San Diego and had a great day as a family (minus our college student daughter) enjoying some beautiful weather!

Afternoon Hike

We decided we needed a taste of seasons and headed up to Forest Falls Sunday afternoon with some friends for a little hike.  Cobi (our dog) loves to come with us and run a bit too.  It was busier this visit because of the holiday weekend, so we kept her pretty close and she didn't get to enjoy much freedom (except when Sarah was holding the leash :).  Here are some highlights...  The last picture is proof that it does get chilly in So. Cal-36 degrees! Thankfully, once we headed down from the hills into the sunshine, we warmed up again.:)

Powder Puff Football

Kamryn and some of the other middle school girls got it in their heads that they wanted to play in a football game.  They talked their favorite PE teacher into letting them organize a game featuring the 7th graders against the 8th graders.  There was to be one practice and the rule was that it had to be kept "low-key."  Kamryn recruited her dad and Mr. Layel to coach and two other eighth grade dads stepped up to help out.  There was much trash talking and some quick learning at the one practice to get everyone ready for the big game.  It was fun to watch, but the mighty eighth graders were just too big, quick, and strong for the younger, smaller and less-confident 7th graders.  It was still lots of fun and neat to try a powder puff game again.

 Kam got to play quarterback.

This is at the practice.  They had to recruit some little brothers to help out. :)

They were excited!

Soccer Snapshots

Kamryn and Troy both played great on the soccer field this weekend.  Troy got a "hat trick" and Kam had some nice shots, but unfortunately they refused to go in the goal.  She also played defense and had some great saves in the goal during the quarter she played goalie.  I love how these pictures show Kam's aggressiveness out on the field.

Kamryn's look in this shot is perfect.  She had just gotten tackled by the other player when she had already caught the ball.  The ref made no call and Kam was not pleased. :)
