Redlands Classic

Saturday afternoon we enjoyed watching one of the races in the Redlands Bike Classic. It was a sprint race, so they came around pretty often-45 times to be exact. (Troy counted.) It was a 90 minute race and as Troy commented, it went by really fast. It was a great time hanging out with friends and my parents who were here visiting. We ran into lots of people from church which was fun too. This race reminded us that it was on this weekend a year ago that Scott and I had our first visit out to Redlands to explore a call to The River CRC.

RCS Friendship Games

Today we celebrated the day before Spring Break with "Friendship Games" at school. It was the typical field day type program with kids being placed on teams to participate in competitions around the school campus. Of course it happened to be the hottest day of the week-a whopping 93 degrees by the afternoon. Thankfully, our day ended at noon and we were dismissed for a glorious long week off. Despite the heat, the kids had a great time and did well. I was asked to lead a team, which ended up to be a lot of fun. Here are some pictures Scott took while stopping by the festivities.

Now we look forward to enjoying some time at home over the next week. It's a blessing not to have to travel anywhere to enjoy beautiful weather! Spring has sprung here in So. Cal. The orange blossoms smell crazy-good right now too!

Pinewood Derby

We got to experience our first cadet pinewood derby race last night at church. Troy had a blast racing his car. It was quite chaotic and noisy, but perfect for these boys. Everyone handled themselves pretty well and rolled with the wins and losses. Of course you see all ranges of cars-some questionable as to whether they were not done with some parental interference. :) It was fun to hear Troy's ideas on how he wants to improve his car next year.

Frightening!

While gazing out my kitchen window this morning, I was greeted with a view of this thing! There was some screaming which brought the whole family running. I then calmed down enough to snap a quick shot of this huge possom. Upon closer look, Scott pointed out the babies clinging to its side. We watched it travel along the top of the fence for awhile. Hopefully it made its way far, far from our backyard!

Snaggletooth

Troy has had a big couple of days. Yesterday one of his very loose front teeth came out after a bit of twisting in front of the bathroom mirror at school. He was pretty excited, but looked a little rough. (The word "hillbilly" came to Scott's mind.) After a bit more cajoling at school today, the second front tooth decided to come out-during the math lesson, I heard. Anyway, Troy is looking and feeling much better. He now has that typical first grade look. We'll just hope the big new ones come in straight!

Amos the Dog or Amos Our Friend?

So we are the proud owners of a dog...for a week. We are dog-sitting for our friends, The Wiers family. Amos has been a great addition to our household. The kids have had a blast playing with him and taking him on walks. Although Amos does have it figured out who is really in charge of his care and well-being...Scott. The cute thing about this situation is that we have a dear friend from Seminary who also happens to be named Amos. So when we told Troy about the dog coming to our house and we kept talking about "Amos" he would ask, "Amos the dog, or Amos our friend?"

A Great Weekend!

Our weekend began with Friday off of school. We had a great day to get a bunch of things done around the house. It has been beautiful weather so I even got some flowers planted-in March! Friday afternoon Katie headed off to the mountains for a youth group retreat. She returned tired, but had a great time. Kamryn played in her first RBY softball game and did very well! She's still figuring out some of the ins-n-outs of the game, but made some nice plays. Her coaches are teaching her a lot and she's getting along well with the girls. Our church had its final performance of "Egypt" this morning. We all helped out in different ways. Scott, Kamryn and Troy were in the performance and Katie and I helped out with make-up. The kids did a great job!
